Blue Thumb
Blue Thumb – Planting for Clean Water™ is a collaborative program originally developed by Rice Creek Watershed District as an outreach program to meet water quality goals identified in their strategic plan and to help their cities meet their federal Clean Water Act mandates. Blue Thumb reaches into the Twin Cities metro area and greater Minnesota with over 60 Blue Thumb partners.

Find out if your favorite lake is safe for you and your family! What will you find? This website will tell you if your lake is safe & suitable for swimming and other recreation. It will also tell you if the fish in your lake have been tested for mercury, the primary concern with eating fish from Minnesota lakes. If you can’t find your lake, that means the state has not tested it.You will find useful information on how you can help keep Minnesota lakes clean!

Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR)
BWSR strives to improve and protect Minnesota’s water and soil resources by working in partnership with local organizations and private landowners. BWSR is the state soil conservation agency, and it administers programs that prevent sediment and nutrients from entering our lakes, rivers, and streams; enhance fish and wildlife habitat; and protect wetlands.
Minnesota Department of Agriculture: Water Protection
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is responsible for or involved in many water quality programs and initiatives.

Minnesota River Watershed Alliance
The Alliance is a network of citizens, public agencies and private organizations that communicate the benefits of an ecologically healthy Minnesota River Watershed to others and who actively work toward its improvement and protection.

Minnesota Waters
Minnesota Waters envisions an engaged citizenry working to protect and restore Minnesota’s irreplaceable natural assets – our clean and healthy lakes and streams – for current and future generations. The mission of Minnesota Waters is to promote responsible stewardship of our water resources by engaging citizens, local and state policymakers, and other partners in the protection and restoration of Minnesota’s lakes and rivers.
MN Department of Natural Resources: Adopt-a-River Program
The Adopt a River program encourages Minnesota volunteers to “adopt” a section of a lake, river, wetland, ditch or ravine to ensure its long-term health through annual cleanups. Adopt-a-River is looking for people to cleanup Minnesota’s shoreline.

MN Department of Natural Resources: Minnesota Project WET
Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) is an international, interdisciplinary, water science and education program for formal and non-formal educators of K-12 students. Minnesota Project WET trains classroom and other educators in hands-on, interactive lessons that are focused on water and encourage critical thinking.

Northland NEMO (Nonpoint Education for Municipal Officials) – University of Minnesota Extension
Our mission is to help Minnesota communities better protect natural resources while accommodating growth and redevelopment. Our programs are designed to build local officials’ capacity to make environmentally-sustainable land use decisions based on knowledge of and vision for the future of their community’s natural resources and an understanding of the impacts of land use changes on soil, water, and related natural resources.
