Freshwater Society is pleased to be partnering once again with Michelob Golden Light for Celebrate Your Lake! In the past, this program has been a competition between lakes, with the winning lake receiving a $50,000 conservation grant. This summer, the funds will directly support the work of Freshwater Society, spreading the impact across the state.
Here’s how it works: For every photo of your favorite lake tagged #MichGolden, #CYL, or #Sponsored, Michelob Golden Light will donate $5 to Freshwater Society, up to a maximum of $50,000. Any picture shared on social media between June 9 and September 6 will count, so start snapping pictures and share away!

A kickoff party for the 2016 campaign was held on June 16 at Cowboy Slims in Uptown, Minneapolis, and included a fashion show and fundraising raffle. Proceeds were donated to Freshwater Society. Help us continue to do great work to care for the lakes, streams, rivers, and groundwater of Minnesota by sharing your photos this summer!
2015 Winner – Big Lake
City of Big Lake worked hard to develop a community-inspired plan for the funds, focusing on water quality, shoreline stabilization, aquatic invasive species, and community education.
2014 Winner – Fairmont Chain of Lakes
The community around the Fairmont Chain of Lakes used their award to improve access to the water with three new fishing piers. The Fairmont Lakes Foundation was hard at work getting the project ready for the 2015 fishing season.
2013 Winner – Albert Lea Lake
Albert Lea Lake was the inaugural winner and used its conservation grant to design a boat launch for non-motorized watercraft along with a shoreland restoration on a sensitive part of the lake. The Albert Lea Lakes Foundation was featured in the Albert Lea Tribune and on KIMT television as the award recipient and is heading up the project.
