Freshwater Society, KARE 11, and MPR are pleased to present the 2018 Minnesota Weatherguide Environment Calendars. Jim Gilbert is a retired teacher from Hopkins High School and Gustavus Adolphus College. He is the author of Minnesota Nature Notes and Minnesota’s Outdoor Wonders. Jim and his network of observers across Minnesota and western Wisconsin keep track of phenology events throughout the year. He has been associated with Freshwater Society and has provided phenology information for the calendar since 1977. Jim is also a consulting naturalist for WCCO radio; tune into his weekly show Sundays at 7:15 a.m.
Ron Schmit joins the Weatherguide team this year. He has been an astronomy educator in the Twin Cities since 1986. Ron has taught at the Science Museum of Minnesota, the Minneapolis Planetarium, the Minnesota Astronomical Society, and the Eisenhower Observatory, and is a Solar System Ambassador with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He is currently the observatory coordinator at Jackson Middle School, in the Anoka-Hennepin School District.
