What do we do?

We are a Minnesota nonprofit on a mission to inspire and empower people to value and preserve water. We use science to engage communities from small towns to the Capitol on how to equitably improve water today and for future generations.

How do we do that?

We advance research.

We conduct independent research on groundwater and lakes and rivers.

We also host a free lecture series with the University of Minnesota’s College of Biological Sciences focused on water and environmental research.

We engage communities.

We certify volunteers who go on to help watershed districts, cities, counties, and more through our Minnesota Water Stewards program.

We support community shoreline cleanups with our Adopt a River program.

We publish the Weatherguide environment calendar and almanac, a popular source of weather, phenology, and astronomy info.

We advocate for systems change.

We facilitate dialogue and support community-led solutions for water.

We promote public policy to protect water in Minnesota communities and downstream.
