Freshwater honors 2014 Clean Water Champions

At the Freshwater Society’s  2014 Ice OUT/Loon IN party and fun-raiser on April 24, Freshwater honored two Clean Water Champions for their commitment to protecting water resources and teaching children and adults to appreciate water and nature.

The two honorees were:

  • Naturalist Jim Gilbert, a teacher and long-time contributor to the Minnesota Weatherguide Environment Calendar who has inspired several generations of Minnesotans with his passion for phenology, the science of natural rythiyms  such as the timing of migrations, first blooms and ice-outs.
  • The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, which has worked for 50 years to protect and restore Lake Minnetonka, Minnehaha Creek, the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes and the other lakes, streams and wetlands in the 181-square-mile watershed.
