Chemicals entering our water system, the health risks they may pose for wildlife and humans and the problem of safely disposing of drugs were the subject of a symposium sponsored March 6 by the Freshwater Society and eight other organizations.

The three experts leading the discussion were: State Rep. Paul Gardner; Kathy Lee, a U.S. Geological Survey hydrologist; and David Wallinga, MD, from the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy.
They talked about, and answered questions about, the growing body of research documenting the presence of potentially harmful chemicals in the environment, including our food and water.

The March 6 event was the first of three symposiums on water. The remaining events will be:

- Conservation – Preserving Our Water, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, May 8, Mayflower Congregational Church, 106 E. Diamond Lake Road, Minneapolis.
