The eight regional Water is Life Art Contest competitions have been completed and the four finalists from each region move on to the state competition.  Freshwater Society will host an award program and art exhibit on May 5, featuring the artwork of all 32 finalists.  Peter Smerud from Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center will be the guest speaker. Six $500 scholarships will be awarded to the top artists.  All artists will be recognized and receive a cash award.  Congratulations to all of the artists and thank you for participating! Ikes-Freshwater conference focuses on ag and water

 

About 200 people – environmentalists and farmers – took part in an all-day conference on agriculture and water quality sponsored by the Izaak Walton League in partnership with the Freshwater Society.

The March 27 conference was aimed at trying to reach some common understanding of the contentious issue of pollution caused by agricultural production, especially farm drainage.
